Civil aviation department investigates plane crash death of government pilot, 59

An experienced government pilot, aged 59, died when his Zlin Z242L aircraft crashed into Tolo Harbour at Tai Po at around 2:20pm on Saturday.

A witness reported the crash to the police, who then alerted the Civil Aviation Department (CAD). The CAD immediatedly initiated the emergency alerting procedure.

Firemen subsequently found the deceased pilot, surnamed Cheuk, inside the wreckage of the plane, which was 16 metres underwater according to the SCMP.

There was no passenger in the plane and the pilot was not on duty at the time. He was certified dead at 3:55pm while he was en route to hospital.
