Hop To It: 6 eggs-traordinary brunches to try out this Easter

Eggcellent Easter Brunch at Lily and Bloom

Transport your Easter egg hunts from your backyard (just kidding – we know you don’t have room for your shoes in your shoebox-sized flat, let alone a yard) to contemporary American restaurant Lily & Bloom for heavenly yolky treats.

Their “Eggcellent Easter Brunch” will allow you pick not only the way your eggs are cooked – whether scrambled, baked, or simply as an omelette – but also the type of egg: Japanese, American, quail or duck. Guests can drop by at the carving station for servings of Australian Wagyu chuck eye roll roast beef, and top it all off, have some chocolate custard for dessert.

Lily & Bloom also offers to get your pestering kids off your hands for a while with an Easter egg hunt and dedicated play area, especially if you’re busy getting wasted with free-flow Bellinis, bloody Marys, beers and boozy milkshakes (it’s an extra HKD195 for the free-flow, but you get to neglect your children and leave them to their egg hunt for free).

Or, you can join the adult Easter egg hunt for a chance to win a year of free meals at Lily & Bloom! Step aside kids, this is serious business.

When: 11am to 1pm, 1:30pm to 4pm, March 26-27
Where: Lily and Bloom, 5/F & 6/F, LKF Tower, 33 Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong (Google Maps).
Price: HKD395 per head + HKD195 free-flow

A Family Easter Brunch at Fish and Meat

The Fish and Meat culinary team have returned for their Easter Sunday brunch with a menu containing—you guessed it, Einstein—fish and meat. For HKD390, guests will be getting an unlimited starter buffet followed by a main of their choice, ending with dessert. Starters include Baywater wild oysters, other shellfish, organic salads and a bruschetta station with vegetarian-friendly options, for those who insist on dragging their herbivore mates to a place called “Fish and Meat”. If you’ve got offspring under the age of 11, they will also be treated to a complimentary Easter brunch.

The (less veggie-friendly) mains are pan-roasted Norwegian salmon, whole roasted French baby chicken, slow-cooked lamb shoulder and pan-fried barramundi. For dessert, you can indulge yourself in their Ultimate Chocolate Cake, with its layers of cocoa-ey ganache, or head over to their buttermilk pancake station where you and your kids can personalise your pancakes with toppings such as berries, mango, vanilla cream and more. Hopefully these turn out better than their shitty macaroni art.

When: March 27
Where: Fish and Meat, 1 & 2/F, 32 Wyndham Street, Central, Hong Kong (Google Maps).
Price: HKD390 per head

Authentic Italian Easter Feast at Pirata

Bring your loved ones for an authentic, homemade Italian meal over Easter at Pirata’s (praise the good lord for long weekends). For just HKD298, brunch begins with a platter of cold cuts, colourful salads, roast beef and of course lots of Italian cheesy goodness. Guests can then tuck into small dishes such as “My Mama’s Meatballs” (which are pork and beef and topped in tomato sauce), Asparagus Flan and Fried Mozzarella Sandwich. The main attraction of the entire brunch menu is the Oven-Roasted Suckling Pig, which is served as a starter with a sharp apple sauce. Mains include Duck Ragu, Tagliatelle with Summer Black Truffle and Eggplant Parmigiana.

Folks over at Pirata recognise that no brunch is complete without free-flow drinks: guests can choose from Strawberry-Peach Bellinis, Lychee Martinis, wine, Prosecco or Asahi for an additional HKD180. And because the sugar in your cocktails obviously doesn’t count, there will also be a selection of desserts to satisfy your sweet tooth.

When: 12pm – 2:30pm, March 25-28
Where: Pirata, 30/F, 239 Hennessy Road (Google Maps)
Price: HKD298 + HKD180 free-flow

Easter Southside Market Long Lunch at the Butchers Club

In case your Saturday night ends up being bigger than expected and you’re eating too late on Sunday to warrant the “br” in “brunch”, the Butchers Club’s Southside Market Long Lunch is the one for you (you have until 5pm to get there, should your hangover be that bad). The special Easter edition of their Long Lunch is at their usual 14,000-square-foot event space in Aberdeen. Both meat lovers and vegetarians are welcome, as their offerings feature a vegetarian frittata station, various chickpea, quinoa, and roasted root vegetable salads, as well as Rosemary and Black Olive Lamb, Barbequed Hanger Steak, Easter Ham, and, of course, a dessert station.

As for entertainment, there will be live musical performances, competitions and drinking games for those who want to celebrate the resurrection extra hard. Little ones will also be kept busy with egg-citing games (we like our eggs punny-side up) like an Easter egg hunt, face painting and an egg painting booth.

When: 12pm-5pm, March 27
Where: The Butcher’s Club, 16/F, Shui Ki Industrial Building, 18 Wong Chuk Hang Road, Aberdeen, Hong Kong (Google Maps)
Price: HKD550 per adult, HKD250 per child

Easter Weekend Brunch Specials at Grassroots Pantry

Grassroots Pantry does things differently for the spring season as they dedicate this month to environmental awareness. Instead of partaking of the regular chocolate, bunny and meat-gorging ordeal, the veggie enthusiasts have decided to take things easy for their Easter specials: menu highlights include Smoked Carrot, Fennel and Dill Salad (HKD98), Cocotte (HKD90), Devilled Eggs (HKD68) and for dessert, Carrot Walnut Cake with Lemon Ricotta Cashew Frosting (HKD78).

Where: Grassroots Pantry, 108 Hollywood Rd, Sheung Wan (Google Maps)

Regional Italian Easter Brunch at Spasso

For the classier crowd, Spasso is offering an Easter brunch with seasonal and Italian regional specialities; prices start from HKD388 depending on the main you choose. What they call the “Queen of Spring”, or Poached Bassano White Asparagus, will be making its appearance on the menu, along with eggs cooked onsen-style, giving them that oozy yolk we love (don’t worry, the eggs are pasteurised and hence theoretically salmonella-free). Some of the regional dishes include, Lamb “Polpettine” (a.k.a. small meatballs), stewed in a rich tomato and fresh thyme sauce, Sardinian Roasted Baby Goat, flavoured with mirto leaves and black olives, and Artichoke and Ricotta Pie.

The buffet also features desserts such as Pastiera Napoletana with orange sauce, a “Colomba” dove-shaped cake and chocolate Easter eggs. Wash it all down with free-flow options for either wine, Prosecco or Veuve Clicquot while your kids could help you pay for it all if they win the dining voucher worth HKD1,000 in the egg-decorating competition.

When: 11:30am to 3:30pm, March 26-27
Where: Spasso, G5-8, 12-17, Empire Centre, 68 Mody Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East, Kowloon (Google Maps).
Price: From HKD388 + HKD148-288 free-flow
