Body of newborn baby found in toilet tank in Tsuen Wan shopping centre

Police are appealing for information after the body of a dead newborn boy was found inside the bathroom of a Tsuen Wan shopping centre.

At around 7:45pm yesterday, the 40-centimetre-long body was found in the ladies’ bathroom at Chan Kee Plaza in Sham Tseng, Oriental Daily reports

A pet shop worker found the boy in a toilet tank after reportedly noticing a “foul smell”. Neil Chan, assistant district commander of crime for Tsuen Wan, said the body was wrapped in five layers of material, including stockings, paper towels, and plastic bags, one of which was from a toy shop in Tokyo called Hakuhinkan.

The baby’s umbilical cord and placenta were reportedly still attached to him, and a pair of scissors and a clamp were also found at the site.

The child is estimated to have been dead for at least 48 hours, and reportedly bore no visible signs of injury. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed, pending post-mortem examinations.

Anyone with information on the case is urged to contact investigating officers from the Tsuen Wan District Crime Squad by calling 6101 0302.
