Missing British teacher murdered in Shenzhen on night of disappearance: police

Hilary St John Bower, the 60-year-old PolyU teacher who disappeared three weeks ago, has been confirmed dead by the police.

Last night, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong Police Force said it had been notified by Chinese authorities of Bower’s murder on the mainland on March 22, the day he was last seen alive.

At the moment, no details about Bower’s cause of death or when Hong Kong police were notified of his murder have been disclosed, SCMP reports.

Arrests have reportedly been made on the mainland.

The deceased’s friend and PolyU colleague, Richard Charles, blasted both local and mainland police for their “shoddy and shambolic” work on Bower’s case.

Last week, Bower’s family and friends expressed fear that his disappearance could be connected to HKD9 million sale he was expecting to make on a mainland property.

The 60-year-old was reportedly seen crossing the border into China via Lo Wu Control Point on March 22. His girlfriend filed a missing persons report on March 30.
