Cabin crew union stages protest march against gov’t handling of CY Leung luggage controversy

A flight crew union is staging a protest march on Sunday afternoon against the government’s handling of the controversy surrounding CY Leung’s daughter’s hand luggage.

Yesterday, the Hong Kong Cabin Crew Federation urged flight attendants, pilots, members of the public and stopover passengers (basically anyone at the airport) to join a march at the arrivals hall between 3 and 6pm on Sunday, SCMP reports

Prior to this, the federation and Jeremy Tam of the Civic Party lodged a complaint and over 30,000 signatures to three international aviation regulatory bodies. They are demanding a full investigation.

The union has expressed its disappointment that Civil Aviation Director-General Norman Lo has failed to come clean on the matter.

On Apr. 7, Apple Daily reported that Leung had allegedly pressured airport officials into breaching security regulations.

It is claimed that he asked airport staff to retrieve his 23-year-old daughter’s carry-on luggage, which she had apparently left in the unrestricted area of the airport.

Leung has denied all the allegations.Transport and Housing Secretary Anthony Cheung Bing-leung said that there was no question that airport security had been violated, and all people and items must pass through security to enter the airport’s restricted area; even the daughters of high-ranking officials.

Cheung insists that the government will take any necessary follow-up action pending a report from the Civil Aviation Department.
