Filmmaker Megan Sullivan’s video of her Hong Kong trip has been shared widely for its beautiful fleeting snapshots of life around the city.
The San Franciscan stitched together one-second clips of classic Hong Kong sights, like the skyline and Star Ferry with smaller, more intimate moments like people waiting at a bus stop, games of checkers in the park, and the little charms on taxi drivers’ dashboards… all set to some pretty dramatic music and complete with a Ferris Bueller quote, natch.
Since she uploaded the video to Youtube in early March, Sullivan’s clip has been reshared on popular Facebook pages and watched over 141,000 times.
In her video description, Sullivan says she booked her trip to Hong Kong on an impulse after seeing round-trip tickets online for USD500 (HKD3,878) and filmed the entire holiday using a Sony A7S and a DJI Phantom 3 4K drone.
The filmmaker explained her mantra of “live more now” in a blog post last week, in which she describes how she fell 50 feet while climbing at Yosemite National Park, got hit by a car and then diagnosed with skin cancer, all in a month. The triple-near-death-experience survivor later saw the seven new wonders of the world in just 13 days in the spirit of her new ethos.
