A man โ who appeared to be quite drunk โ reportedly fell onto a parked Mercedes-Benz after trying to climb up a drainpipe to get home.
According to Oriental Daily, police received a report at around 10am that a Mercedes-Benz had been damaged by an object โfalling from great heightโ while parked outside a garage for repairs at Fort Street in North Point.
Instead of seeing some kind of airborne debris, police officers reviewing surveillance video found footage of what appeared to be a very drunk man trying โ and spectacularly failing โ to get into his third-floor apartment just after 2am.
In the clip, the bald man can be seen stepping onto a bin and pulling himself up the drainpipe, before suddenly crashing down onto the corner of the white Benz. The failed freeclimber then yanks his jumper off and staggers off camera, looking rather worse for wear.
A police source told the SCMP that the munted mountaineer is a 42-year-old German man, who also damaged a signboard for a ground-level massage parlour.
The massage parlourโs owner, He Yunshan, said a neighbouring businessowner had seen the man wandering around wearing a white sheet at around 10pm yesterday. Sounds like a toga party gone wrong to us!
The 42-year-old was later found in his flat by police officers and taken to hospital after complaining of leg pain, although he reportedly escaped โserious injuryโ.
A police source told the SCMP that the man has not been arrested, as compensation has been settled with both He and the operator of the garage.
