A night of cocktails at Lily & Bloom to save Hong Kong’s last pink dolphins

Successful adulting often involves rewarding oneself for getting through Hump Day with a few alcoholic beverages. You’ll get bonus adulting points if the proceeds from your cocktail-imbibing go towards charity – so join homegrown brand Mazu Swimwear and Lily & Bloom on Wednesday, May 11, when they’ll be hosting an event to raise money for the Hong Kong Dolphin Conservation Society (HKDCS).

Hong Kong’s waters are home to more than container ships, party junks, and ferries: Chinese white dolphins, also known as pink dolphins, also criss-cross the Pearl River Delta. As you might imagine, surviving here is not easy: they face pollution, traffic, overfishing and massive construction projects such the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and the proposed third runway.

Unfortunately, it’s now estimated that there are only about 60 of these dolphins left swimming in the SAR. HKDCS is the only organisation in the city working in cetacean conservation (they also have programs involving the many finless porpoises frolicking in our waters). Learn more about their work and how you can help on their website.

On May 11, Mazu swimwear and Lily & Bloom are hosting a cocktail event to raise money for HKDCS and awareness for the conservation of these incredible marine mammals, with top-notch raffle prizes from niin, Mischa, Marie France Van Damme, JJ Threads, Baendit and more.

The event hopes to raise HKD200,000 for HKDCS – helping to ensure that both our and future generations are able to see these beautiful creatures in their native habitat. (Hong Kong Dolphinwatch runs responsible tours that see dolphins 97 percent of the time.)

Mazu Swimwear is also also currently selling a limited edition set of swimshorts for both men and children – designed by local artist Marc Allante – to raise awareness for these creatures, with 10 percent of gross proceeds being donated to HKDCS. You can grab a pair of these on their website for HKD800 (boys) or HKD1,400 (men).
