3 tourists, including Hong Kong woman, killed in speedboat accident near Koh Samui

Three tourists, including one Hong Kong woman, have been killed in a boating accident while leaving Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park near Koh Samui, Thailand.

According to the Bangkok Post, 32 tourists and four crew members were on board the Aang Thong Discovery 3 when it capsized at around 5pm yesterday in an area called Lam Khai.

Rough waves overturned the speedboat as it was headed towards Lomphraya Pier, according to the Telegraph. Shortly after their boat capsized, 30 of the people on board were rescued by a passing speedboat.

A 28-year-old British woman, 29-year-old German woman, and 30-year-old Hong Kong woman have all been confirmed dead.

Authorities continue to search for a missing British man.

The 47-year-old speedboat driver is being held in police custody pending further investigation.

Surat Thani governor Wongsiti Promchana told the Bangkok Post that the tourists were not wearing life jackets during the accident.
