Man charged with murder as police search for alleged victim’s body

A 49-year-old illegal immigrant from mainland China has been charged with the murder of a woman whose body hasn’t yet been found.

The suspect has also been charged with obstructing police officers, illegal immigration, possession of a forged Hong Kong ID card, and using a forged Hong Kong ID card.

He is being held in police custody as officers search for the body of 62-year-old Chan Sau-wa, who went missing on May 1 after her first day at work on a construction site in Ho Man Tin.

Chan’s son reported her missing on May 3.

According to Apple Daily, Chan was last seen entering a building in Sham Shui Po after leaving work on the 1st.

During a door-to-door search of the building on May 14, police officers arrested a man who was seen trying to climb out of a window in a subdivided flat.

Inspection of the man’s flat revealed traces of human blood, which has since been confirmed to be Chan’s, and “signs of cleaning”. As a result, police say they “reasonably believe” that Chan was killed.

The 49-year-old was charged at Kowloon City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. The search continues for Chan’s body.
