Hong Kong’s first ‘hotline killer’ app lets you skip the audio menus and get straight to a human

It’s a scenario we all come across too often: a frantic rush to connect with a customer service agent on the phone, only to be bombarded with an aural wall of instructions given by a monotone robotic voice.

Skipmenu, a new app created by two Hongkongers, offers users the ability to, well, skip the menu. The app replaces the never-ending “Press 1 for A, Press 2 for B” tracks that nobody loves with an easy-to-use visual menu, displaying each option directly on your screen.

Attention-span-deficient users are thus able to whizz through choices and connect in a matter of seconds, with the creators of the app liken it to “an antivirus against automated phone menus that cost callers time, money and frustration”.

Chloe Chan, head of growth at Skipmenu, explains that the app maximises efficiency: “Once your selections have been recorded, Skipmenu will dial with the required key presses so you get connected five to seven times faster than usual”.

The company also brags that their app, only nine megabytes in size, makes it one of the lightest on the market, leaving more space for more important things – like selfies and cat memes – to prosper on your phone. Download Skipmenu for free from the Google Play Store or iOS App Store
