Donations pour in to support deceased firefighter’s wife and 4-month-old baby

Donations have been pouring in for the family of the young fireman who tragically died in an ongoing blaze at a Ngau Tau Kok storage facility.

Thomas Cheung, a 30-year-old senior station officer, died yesterday evening after he lost contact with his teammates for half an hour inside Amoycan Industrial Centre.

Thousands of people citywide have been mourning the 30-year-old’s death, hailing him as a hero.

A university friend of Cheung’s spoke of the firefighter’s “complete devotion” to the things he wanted to achieve on Commercial Radio earlier today.

Cheung’s high school, St. Paul’s College, wrote on its website that it was “proud” to count the “brave and selfless” father as an alumnus.

Following news of his passing, the Fire Service Officers’ Association and alumni associations from HKU and St. Paul’s College, Cheung’s alma maters, have begun accepting donations for his widow and four-month-old baby. The HKU fund is open to alumni only, whereas the St. Paul’s fund is accepting donations from the public (more details on how to donate below).

Due to doubtful comments from netizens who questioned whether funds from both schools would go to Cheung’s family, his widow has released the details of her bank account to allow members of the public to transfer money directly to her.
