Second firefighter killed as Ngau Tau Kok blaze rages on for 4th day

Now the longest-running fire in Hong Kong in over 20 years, the Ngau Tau Kok storage unit blaze has claimed the life of another fireman.

Samuel Hui, 37, was found unconscious on the third floor of Amoycan Industrial Building and taken to United Christian Hospital at 7:30pm yesterday, Apple Daily reports.

He was confirmed dead at 9:40pm. Hui, who was a senior fireman, is survived by his wife and seven-year-old son.

Senior station officer 30-year-old Thomas Cheung was confirmed dead at 9:54pm on Tuesday after fighting the then-third-alarm fire which had ignited earlier that day.

While an inspection from the Buildings Department assessed that the building was unlikely to collapse, the government has hired double-decker buses to stand by in case residents in the area need to be evacuated.
