O Say, Can You Party: Where to eat, drink, and be free this 4th of July weekend

It’s the USA’s 240th birthday, and what better way is there to celebrate freedom and Donald Trump by indulging in some hearty ‘Murican grub and an inordinate amount of booze?

Here’s how Hong Kong’s American F&B establishments are partying this weekend (in the order that they’re happening, because we’re semi-organised adults):

The Glory Hole

Butchers Club Burger: Block party

As part of its Independence Day specials, Butchers Club Burger’s created a “doughnut burger” called The Glory Hole which you can grab at any of their outlets from tomorrow til Monday, while an homage to the US’ northern neighbours, the Cheeseburger Poutine, will be available all month.

The main event, however, is the block party which will be taking place at the BCB’s Wan Chai location on the afternoon of July 1st. It sounds like they’re trying to bro-the-eff-out, as there’ll be games of beer pong and flip cup, while partygoers are encouraged to do keg stands and chug beer through funnels.

And that’s not even taking into account the “drinking-and-eating-quintathlon” they’ve promised, which includes a bone marrow luge and egg waffle sundae. Dude. Sweet. Dude.

When: 4pm to late, Friday, July 1
Where: G/F, 2 Landale Street, Wan Chai (Google Maps)

What better culinary embodiment is there of America’s multi-ethnic culture than ribs slatered in adobo sauce?

Lily & Bloom: Food truck and hot dog eating competition

Lily & Bloom’s got a special barbecue menu planned from Saturday to Sunday, where weekend warriors can take on an all-you-can-eat menu of Ribs with Adobo Sauce, Baked Eggs, Buttermilk Waffles, Mini Hot Dogs, and more for HKD395/head (lunch) or HKD480/head (dinner).

On July 4th itself, Lily & Bloom’s bringing in a food truck to serve Mini Hot Dogs, Truffle & Bacon Mac ‘n’ Cheese, and Bone Marrow & Bourbon Onion Wagyu Sliders.

You may want to pace yourself, though, as there’ll be a Hot Dog Eating Competition at 8pm. Whoever manages to shove the most hot dogs in their face within two minutes will win a HKD1,000 bar tab!

Posto Pubblico: Breakdancing and meatballs

On Sunday, Posto Pubblico will be putting on a bigger and badder version of its popular “Biggie Smalls & Meatballs” nights. Be ready to witness b-boys and b-girls in a full-on breakdance battle while DJ Mike Darling spins Biggie on the decks.

Caesar and caprese salads are available as starters, but the real star is the “Build-your-own sub” station, where you can customise your own Chicken Parm Sub, Italian Sub, and/or Meatball Sub. For dessert, why not chow down on a classic New York-style Cheesecake?

And of course, there’s an open bar (or as they’re called in the US, freedom bars… okay, not really), where you can sip on free-flow Peronis, Bellinis, and homemade wine coolers to your heart’s content.
