4 must-try ‘Hong Kong Restaurant Week’ newbies

Presented by

If you love food and you live in Hong Kong, you’ll no doubt be an old hand at Restaurant Week, the bi-annual citywide eating event going into its 11th edition from July 29 – August 7. But while you may think you know all there is to know about this awesome dining experience – where participating restaurants produce exclusive lunch and/or dinner set menus at special Restaurant Week prices – you probably don’t know who’s new to the scene this summer.

We, on the other hand, do – and because we kind of like you guys, we thought we’d share the scoop. And because we kind of LOVE you guys, we also secured special priority booking for Coconauts, which will allow you to make the highly coveted reservations four days ahead of the normos on July 21.

As usual, there’s an absolute overflowing trough load of quality restaurants to pick from, but here are just four notable newbies we’d like to put under your noses.

Kaum at Potato Head

Potato Head Hong Kong

The latest proof that Sai Ying Pun is well and truly on its way to total gentrification is the recent opening of the Potato Head complex, from Potato Head Beach Club in Bali and Potato Head Folk in Singapore fame. At the centre of the HK outlet is Kaum, a welcoming and effortlessly cool restaurant specialising in authentic cooking styles and flavours from across Indonesia.

Seafood Room

Seafood Room, Hong Kong

The new star of Jaffe Road (Causeway Bay) is Seafood Room, a place where fresh fruits of the sea are cooked just the way we like them, honestly and without overkill. Executive chef James Cornwall (previously of London’s J Sheekey) has put the focus on in-season ingredients, allowing guests to pick their protein straight out of the tank or ice tray, much as you would on Sai Kung’s seafront, just with more crystal chandeliers and jaw dropping cityscape vistas.

 Le Rêve

Le Reve, Hong Kong

Another new jewel in Causeway Bay’s crown is Le Rêve, an exciting fusion restaurant pairing French cooking with Japanese ingredients to create a concept that’s just crazy enough to work. Chef Ryogo Ozawa is a rising Japanese talent who honed his skills at three-Michelin-starred L’Assiette Champenoise in Reims, so prepare for something spectacular.

Chef’s Stage Kitchen

Chef's Stage Kitchen, Hong Kong

For a meaty mouthful on the “Dark Side”, you could do a lot worse that Western-style steak house Chef’s Stage Kitchen. Located in Yuen Long, this fresh and funky joint is run by three experienced chefs who promise to bring you beefy bang for your buck this Restaurant Week. CSK is also renowned for its great service, so sit back and enjoy being waited on.

All set menus during Restaurant Week will go for HKD118 (lunch) and HKD298 (dinner) in Category A, and HKD198 (lunch) and HKD398 (dinner) in Category B. Remember to use our dedicated Coconuts link from 10am on Thursday July 21 and book yourself up for the tastiest week of the summer.

You beach body will forgive you.
