Genius gets locked in while robbing Kwai Chung arcade, calls cops to let him out

Watch out guys, we’ve got a real brainiac over here. A 46-year-old genius apparently burgled an arcade, got away with it, then went back because the police asked him to, and got arrested.

The man hid at a game centre on Ta Chuen Ping Street in Kwai Chung late last night and waited until staff closed shop at midnight, Apple Daily reports.

He reportedly began looting the place and emptied the cash register. Despite his obviously foolproof plan, it seems he forgot to disarm the shop’s surveillance camera. And that’s probably the least stupid thing he did in this entire course of events.

At around 2am, a staff member noticed movement on the CCTV footage and hurried back to the arcade. The sound of the shop gate being opened apparently startled the terrible thief, who then ditched his stash of cash in a corner and, in a panicked attempt to appear innocent, called the police to tell them he had been “locked in”.

Hah. This fucking guy.

Upon being discovered by the arcade clerk, the 46-year-old reportedly accused him of locking him in the shop. The clerk apparently recognised the bumbling burglar as a “known gang member”, but let him go as he didn’t appear to be carrying any stolen goods.

Later, finding that the cash register had been broken into, the clerk called the police. Officers found HKD54,000 stashed next to a game machine.

Despite it seeming like the criminal mastermind had gotten away footloose and fancy free, he apparently called the police back himself to say he’d managed to get out without assistance.

The officers then slyly asked him to return to the arcade for “formalities” and promptly arrested him.
