Chung Hom Kok Beach closed after oil spill sighting

Chung Hom Kok Beach has been temporarily closed after an oil spill was seen near the shore.

A red flag was hoisted at 8:43am yesterday, and beachgoers have been warned from swimming in the waters until further notice.

The beach, which is near Stanley, is a popular site for swimming, and it is consistently ranked as a “Grade 1” beach, indicating its comparatively high level of water quality.

In spite of this, it was closed twice last summer after oil spills were sighted on Aug. 13 and Sept. 6.
