4 Hong Kong tourists injured in Germany axe attack

Four Hong Kong tourists travelling through Bavaria by train were wounded when a teenager attacked them with an axe and knife.

A Hong Kong couple surnamed Yau, aged 62 and 58, their 27-year-old daughter, and her 31-year-old boyfriend surnamed Au Yeung were all injured, according to Oriental Daily. The Yaus’ 17-year-old son was unharmed.

Local police said on their Facebook page that out of the four victims, three were seriously injured while another was treated for mild injuries. Fourteen other people are being treated for shock.

The group was attacked by a 17-year-old Afghan refugee at around 9:15pm German time on a train between Treuchtlingen and Würzburg.

The perpetrator reportedly shouted “Allahu Akbar” before launching the attack, Deutsche Welle reports.

He was able to escape the train after his rampage, but was pursued and soon shot dead by police.

Police told Deutsche Welle that the motive of the attack was not immediately clear.
