Mahjong parlour staffer allegedly ‘bribed to help players cheat’ charged by ICAC

A former assistant manager at a Sham Shui Po mahjong parlour was charged by the ICAC after he was suspected of receiving a bribe to assist players in cheating during games.

The 64-year-old man, surnamed Chan, was said to have breached the Prevention of Bribery Ordinance, reports Apple Daily. He will appear at Kowloon City Magistrates’ Courts tomorrow.

He allegedly received HKD75,000 from his supervisor at the parlour between July and October last year, in exchange for producing fluorescent markings on mahjong tiles, which became visible to players who were wearing special polaroid contact lenses.

As far as cheating methods go, that’s pretty next-level.

Chan and his supervisor were purportedly carrying out the acts with a group who specialised in cheating. It is unclear whether others implicated in the alleged scam had been charged.
