Alfresco Aperitifs: The top 5 outdoor bars in Hong Kong

Ah, autumn in Hong Kong – a time when we can venture outside without dripping with sweat. Take advantage of the breezy weather at these outdoor bars.

Vibes

We love alfresco watering hole Vibes for its secretive, yet relaxed atmosphere. Taking up a courtyard space at boutique hotel The Mira, the bar is decked out with sleek furniture, water features and lotus-shaped open fires for when it gets a little chilly. Sink into the lounge chairs, or go baller in a cabana. Weeknights are more casual affairs, with regular happy hours and the popular Hot Arabian Nights every Thursday — think shisha, belly dancing and the like. Come weekends, the place is filled with a sexy crowd dancing to live DJ beats.

Pier 7 Cafe & Bar

For those tired of the overrated bars of SoHo (read: everyone), look no further than Pier 7 Cafe & Bar. It’s an unpretentious joint that does solid food and drink, all for reasonable prices. Its true pièce de resistance? The outdoor deck, with views of the skyline and the glittering skyscrapers of Hong Kong Island. Happy hour is from 6-9pm on weeknights, with drinks starting at HKD48.

ABOVE

Frequented by a crowd in the know, Ovolo Southside’s not-so-hidden gem ABOVE has views of Repulse Bay and beyond in a stylish setting. Duck out of the office early and get there for the daily 5-8pm happy hour, with two-for-one drinks. As an added plus, you get to avoid obnoxious Centralites. What more could you ask for?!

Seafood Room

The views from the Seafood Room’s rooftop terrace are, without a doubt, some of the best — and most unique — on Hong Kong Island. Taking up the top floors of recently opened Tower 535, this is the perfect spot for a pre-dinner cocktail… or a nightcap with a sexy date. This is a payday kind of bar, though: signature cocktails are HKD158 each, while classic cocktails are HK138. But hey… just think about all those Instagram likes you’ll rack up for photos of the view.

CÉ LA VI

CÉ LA VI’s Sky Deck may have had its jacuzzi removed, but the glorious views of the harbour remain. And then there are the cocktails and glamorous guests, who seem to party it up even on a weeknight. Especially on a weeknight. Sink into the inviting lounge seats for some people-watching.
