Mainland police seize 2 tonnes of crystal meth bound for Hong Kong with help from ‘Monkey King’ informant

Mainland Chinese police reportedly seized two tonnes of crystal meth worth RMB2 billion (HKD2.3 billion) bound for Hong Kong from the western Guangdong coast this week.

Guangdong Provincial Public Security Bureau officials said they were provided valuable intel by an anonymous informant, who has been dubbed “Monkey King” by the local press for the mask he wore protected his identity.

Over 10 suspects, two of whom were Hongkongers, were arrested, Ming Pao reports. The suspects are said to be “key players” in a drug syndicate that allegedly has ties in Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.

Police said in a press conference that the syndicate is believed to be funded and led by Hong Kong people, and that over 1,000 members are suspected to still be at large.

The “Monkey King” will be receiving RMB30,000 (HKD34,400) for his troubles, which seems like a massive downgrade from the Peaches of Longevity.
