A 29-year-old foreign domestic helper was arrested yesterday after she allegedly burned the face and neck of her employer’s 15-month-old baby with hot water.
The baby’s mother, surnamed Lee, posted photos of her child’s injuries on a Facebook group for FDH employers yesterday afternoon with the caption “My heart aches and bleeds”, according to HK01.
Lee, 30, said she believed her helper had accidentally spilled boiling water on the infant boy while preparing milk for him on Wednesday. His right cheek and neck were apparently scalded and peeling and Lee brought him to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment.
The mother said felt “angry and helpless”, especially as she had demonstrated how to safely prepare milk away from the baby.
She immediately dismissed her helper via a written notice but is holding off on purchasing her ex-employee a plane ticket home (as suggested by the employment agency) until “the matter is resolved”.
Police confirmed that they received a report from Lee and had arrested the 29-year-old in question on suspicion of “abusing or neglecting a young child” at Lee’s home in Sham Shui Po. No details about the helper’s nationality have been released so far.
A police investigation is underway.
