(Video) 1 person dead after truck crashes into bus stop, rolls down slope

A 27-year-old woman was killed after a truck crashed into a bus stop and slid down a slope near Tai Lam Tunnel last night.

RTHK reported that at least four people, three men and one woman, were injured and taken to the hospital for treatment. The truck driver, who was also among the injured, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident took place at about 11pm last night along the Tsing Long Highway in Pat Heung towards Yuen Long.

Inspector Ho Tai-yin from the special investigation team for New Territories North told reporters at the scene that the truck driver, later identified as a 51-year-old man surnamed Lee, lost control of his vehicle after passing through the toll booth after the Tai Lam Tunnel exit.

The vehicle then veered left and slammed into a bus stop, where at least 10 people — including the deceased — were waiting. The truck then slides down the slope, landing on its side on Pat Heung Road.

Ho said the deceased was found on the slope with several injuries. Emergency services declared her dead at the scene.

On.cc reported that the deceased, surnamed Wong, is the mother of a 1-year-old son, and relatives were at the scene to confirm her identity.

Apple Daily also obtained shocking dash cam footage of the moment the truck slid down the slope and landed on its side. The video was filmed by a woman surnamed Chan who was in the area picking up friends.

Chan said she was waiting for a female pedestrian to clear her path when she heard a loud “bang” and saw the truck careen down the slope.

Police are currently investigating the cause of the accident, and the truck is believed to have been carrying dangerous or hazardous goods.

This is not the first time a fatal traffic accident has occurred near the Tai Lam Tunnel. In 2007, one person died and 13 people were injured in an accident that saw the roof of a double decker bus come off after it hit container truck.

In June 2016, the driver of a cement mixer reportedly dozed off at the wheel causing the vehicle to hit the tunnel wall and slam into another truck. Shortly afterwards on the same day, there was a four-vehicle pile-up. Two people were injured that day.

In June, 20 people were injured in a collision between two double decker buses inside the tunnel.
