Triad Wars, developed by United Front Games, allows players to control a Hong Kong triad gangster trying to make his way to the top of the food chain by “raiding real rivals, taking their stuff, and building their empire” along the way.

In this “open world action strategy game”, players will get to “immerse themselves into the Hong Kong gangster world”, with every conceivable form of triad-related organised crime at your disposal to help you build up your very own gang: you can create extortion rackets (Aha! We’re coming for you street hawkers!), make counterfeit goods or currency, smuggle in things, and even have a cockfighting ring!

The game’s world is your oyster, and “you can do whatever you want to do in order to defeat those guys”. In the video, this statement is immediately followed by a clip of a player shooting some dudes in the face. If you want to be truly authentic, you can also choose a cleaver as your weapon of choice.
Ultimately, the game isn’t about making the triads glamorous: “When we set out to build Triad Wars, we set out to build a fun game. And that’s really all that matters,” says a developer.
Totally! In a society where some youngsters are trading tips on how to keep one’s income low in order to “level up” and to qualify for public housing early – a “life goal” – they really needed a fun outlet like this.
