From Paris to Paltrow – All the stars came out for Hong Kong’s art weekend

Hong Kong was the art centre of the universe last weekend, attracting not only billionaires and big collector hot shots, but also Hollywood A-listers, including the likes of Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Paris Hilton and Victoria Beckham.

Along with the launch of two parallel events last weekend, the amfAR AIDS fundraiser Gala Auction and Liberatum Artistry arty party, the attending celebrities were also invited to scope out Art Basel.

Gwyneth Paltrow made a sneaky appearance at Art Basel before hosting the amfAR Gala auction dinner on Saturday. The event helped raise a total of USD2 million (HKD15.5 million) for the cause.

Among the other amfAR guests were Paris Hilton, who made quite an entry at Hong Kong Airport on Friday with her garish snake print outfit, CY Leung’s daughter Chai Leung, who appeared rather worse for wear, Naomi Campbell, Robin Thike, Kate Moss and Victoria Beckham.

The latter was also spotted at Art Basel, no doubt searching for romantic-themed masterpieces or rummaging through the aisles for more Tracey Emin neon works (see Recent Acquisitions Made from Celebrity Collectors).

Finally, award-winning actress Susan Sarandon honoured us with her presence, attending Sunday’s Liberatum Artistry Gala evening dinner, which was held in her honour at The Upper House.

She received an award for her outstanding contribution to cinema. Despite attending the fair, she confessed she was not on the hunt for any new acquisitions.

She also told the crowd that she will be handing down her collection of photographs and paintings to her family.
