CY Leung denies stopping daughter leaving for hospital after alleged assault by mother

Hong Kong’s Chief Executive CY Leung has denied that he stopped his daughter Chai going to hospital after she accused her mother of attacking her on Facebook yesterday.

CY Leung also denied that his wife Regina had indeed slapped and kicked 23-year-old Chai as she claimed, and asked for the public and the media to leave his daughter alone.

“Please give us more space and time,” he requested in a media session yesterday afternoon, when he admitted that Chai has experienced “health problems” since going to Britain to study.

“Only a son or daughter would say something unpleasant about their parents, and not vice versa,” he added, seemingly referring to Chai’s status updates in which she claimed she wouldn’t care if her parents died and wouldn’t go to her mother’s funeral.

Following the first allegation of assault at around 6am, police and an ambulance were called to Government House at around 11am, shortly after some of Chai’s worried friends suggested she do so on Facebook.

Police Commissioner Andy Tsang confirmed that they had been contacted with a request for help but said they didn’t find anyone with injuries on arrival.

He said they left again when “the person who made the called declined further assistance.”

Just before her Facebook page was taken offline, Chai claimed she was being held against her will and that she had to sign a statement saying she no longer required help.
