Seven police officers accused of beating Occupy protester Ken Tsang will be charged by the end of the week, a police source told the SCMP.
The currently-suspended Organised Crime and Triad Bureau and Kwun Tong CID officers are accused of beating Civic Party member Ken Tsang Kin-chiu in Admiralty during the height of the pro-democracy protests last year in an incident that was captured by television cameras and further raised tensions.
Footage appeared to show the seven officers punching and kicking Tsang after arresting him amid clashes between demonstrators and police on Lung Wo Road on Oct. 15 last year. Several weeks later they were arrested on suspicion of assault causing actual bodily harm, before being released on bail and suspended. They will now face either assault or wounding charges, another source told the SCMP.
Tsang revealed on Tuesday that neither he nor his legal representatives had been contacted by the Department of Justice or the police about the investigation. “Until the government finally decides to prosecute, no one should be positive or feel happy,” he added.
