The alleged mistress of 60-year-old British teacher Hilary Bower has been arrested along with two male accomplices in connection to Bower’s murder.
PolyU language teacher Hilary St John Bower was last seen crossing Lo Wu Border Control from Hong Kong to China on March 22, apparently on his way home to see his longtime girlfriend, surnamed Shi, and their six-year-old son. Shi reported him missing on March 30.
According to Apple Daily, a woman surnamed Xu claiming to be Bower’s girlfriend turned herself in to Dongguan public security on April 7 and confessed to his murder.
Investigators told Apple Daily that Bower left PolyU at around 5pm on March 22, and crossed the border to Shenzhen. The 60-year-old reportedly visited Xu’s apartment in Nanshan, then called Shi at around 9pm to tell her he would be home later.
Xu allegedly confessed to killing Bower and reportedly dismembering his body with help from her nephew and another male accomplice that evening, but claimed she no longer knew their whereabouts.
Earlier today, Shenzhen Public Security Bureau’s Nanshan branch posted a notice on their public Weibo page, which stated that 38-year-old Xu, a 28-year-old man surnamed Sun, and a 23-year-old man surnamed Liu were arrested on April 8 over Bower’s murder.
Last week, family and friends of Bower expressed concern that he may have been kidnapped in relation to a HKD9 million sale he was expecting to make on a mainland property.
A police source has reportedly told Apple Daily, Oriental Daily, and various other local media outlets that they have not ruled out an “emotional” motive for Bower’s murder, due to his “complicated” love life.
