Amber Rainstorm Warning now in force after 2-hour Red Rainstorm Warning

UPDATE: As of 11:20am, the Red Rainstorm Warning Signal is back in force

The Hong Kong Observatory raised the Amber Rainstorm Warning at 9:35am, after the Red Rainstorm Warning was in force for two hours starting at 7:35am.

Expect heavy rain and flooding in some low-lying and poorly drained areas as a trough of low pressure crosses the southern Chinese coast today.

Depending on the time they start school, children got the day off because of the Red Rainstorm Warning. For working adults however, we’re afraid you’re going to have to keep adulting as normal today. Those lucky bastards…

The Thunderstorm Warning was hoisted at 5:40am and will continue until 11:45am, with squally thunderstorms expected all over the city. The government reminds you to not stand on high grounds and to keep away from highly conductive objects, like trees or masts.

The Special Announcement on Flooding in the Northern New Territories warning are also in force, with 70 millilitres of rain recorded in that area between 6:30am and 7:30am alone.

The Social Welfare Department also announced this morning during the Red Rainstorm Warning that people should not take children or the elderly to care centres, though they will remain open for those who cannot provide alternative care.

The Home Affairs Department also announced that its Emergency Co-Ordination Centre was now in operation, and that temporary shelters will be opened. For more info, please call 2835 1473.
