An art exhibition entitled “Earth to Fuckface” was bound to catch our attention. We hate to admit it, but we’re pretty easily won over by the liberal use of swearies.
For no apparent reason, other than the fact it probably gets him more press, LA-based German artist Friedrich Kunath has called his brand new Hong Kong exhibition exactly that. Top marks for being so “out there”, Friedi!
Having launched just yesterday and now running until Jan. 31 at the White Cube Hong Kong, this rudely named little exhibit actually looks surprisingly innocent and charming.
Through a range of mediums, including sculpture, installation, painting and photography, Kunath reacquaints us with some familiar friends from the past (notably Eeyore and Fievel the mouse – yay!) in highly romanticised, almost classically painted, settings.
Chanson Egocentrique: Friedrich Kunath
With layer-upon-layer creating a dense dreamlike scene, the equally beautiful and comical images are sure to add a bit of childlike wonder to Hong Kong’s art scene…
…or maybe we’re just writing about it because they used a naughty word in the title. It just goes to show – some of us never grow up!
