We hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend – that is, if your holidays were free of weird accidents. In a rather unfortunate series of events, a pair of private cars, a truck, and a tram were all involved in three separate traffic mishaps all over Hong Kong during the Easter break.
At around 10:24am on Saturday, a 76-year-old doctor reportedly rammed his brand new Mercedes-Benz into another car in Tin Hau, causing the parked (and thankfully empty) Volkswagen to fly off the first-level car park and onto the street, according to Apple Daily.
The doctor, surnamed Fung, reportedly received minor injuries to his hand, while a passing pedestrian was cut and bruised by projectile debris from the crash.
Netizens wasted no time in parodying the incident, with one Hongkonger photoshopping a picture from the accident to look like an advert for the Fast and Furious film franchise.
Early Sunday afternoon, major roads in Hung Hom were severely congested after a truck collision on Chatham Road North at around 2:45pm, which brought down road barriers and a lamp post.
Ming Pao reports that the truck flipped onto its side, while a taxi was partially crushed by the lamp post. Both drivers passed breathalyser tests, and four people were injured.
Later that afternoon, a tram passing through Central swerved off the rails whilst headed towards Happy Valley. According to Apple Daily, the tram should have taken a left turn after passing Cheung Kong Centre, but instead veered right and ran off the rails.
Thankfully, nobody was injured and the tram was eventually pushed back onto the rails. A spokesperson for the operator, Hong Kong Tramways, told the SCMP that the company was investigating the incident, and that the tram would be inspected at the Whitty Street Depot.
