Shenzhen border patrols discovered a man swimming in the sea, wearing a backpack and a lifebuoy, swimming toward the direction of Hong Kong, according to the Apple Daily.
When the man saw the border officials, he turned to get their attention, who lifted him up onto the boat. He claimed that he was a Hongkonger and hoped that the border patrol officers will assist him to return to Hong Kong. However, when the officials asked him for his identity card, he said that he had left his ID in Hong Kong.
As the man had a heavy mainland accent and did not understand Cantonese, officials were not convinced he was from Hong Kong and brought him back to mainland. On the mainland, the man admitted that he is mainland Chinese and was hoping to swim to Hong Kong and if he got caught, he would insist that he is from Hong Kong.
He didn’t get to Hong Kong but at least he got a good workout!
