Minibus catches on fire near Kowloon City primary school

A green minibus caught on fire near La Salle Primary School in Kowloon City on Saturday. The number 2 GMB was on its way towards Boundary Street at noon when the engine began to smoke.

A witness passing by Beverly Villa on La Salle Road told Apple Daily that the entire interior of the vehicle was on fire, and she heard what sounded like explosions coming from the engine.

The minibus was travelling from Festival Walk in Kowloon Tong to Hung Hom’s Whampoa Garden when the driver, surnamed Huang, saw smoke coming out of the engine. He immediately parked the bus and evacuated all eight passengers who were aboard.

Huang said that it was already his fourth time on the route that day and that the engine had shown no signs of trouble prior to the incident.

Preliminary investigations from the Fire Department indicate that cause of the fire was an overheating engine.
