What the? The controversially reassigned former chief editor of Ming Pao’s Chinese language newspaper is currently undergoing surgery, and is said to be in critical condition.
The former chief editor, Kevin Lau, had previously been reassigned to handle the agency’s teaching materials unit sparking public concern over press freedom.
Earlier this morning, Lau was attacked by a man with a chopper on Tai Hong St. in Sai Wan Ho, causing severe injuries to his legs, back and left lung. Some cuts were as long as 16cm and so deep that it cut through his back and reaching his left chest cavity – wounds on his thighs cut through major nerves and muscles so doctors are unsure whether Lau will retain full mobility on his legs. The attacker fled the scene on a motorcycle driven by another person.
