The Asia Society Hong Kong Centre has invited speakers from the Asian University for Women in Bangladesh for a wide-ranging panel discussion on women’s rights. The speakers include the school’s Chancellor Cherie Blair (former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s wife) and Founding Chairman Jack Meyer. Ronnie C. Chan of the Asia Society will also be there. Adventure Time Tuesday! Come out of your Tuesday hiding hole and taste a “wine with a sense of adventure” at the The Flying Winemaker. The Ka Kee Gallery of Objects (143 Second Street in Sai Ying Pun) is hosting its inaugural opening party, premiering contemporary artist Helen Pun’s “Space and Motion” exhibition between 3:30pm and 4:30pm today. This socially-minded gallery focuses on local causes and promotes creativity, humanity and women’s empowerment. In line with a goal to contribute to the local community, part of the proceeds will also go to their charity partner KELY Support Group. More details.

LOL alert for the month of September. Starting on Sept. 3, hoots, cackles and embarrassing double snorts are to be heard all around town as the 9th Annual Hong Kong International Comedy Festival barrel-rolls in. From Sept. 3 to 26, 30 award-winning comedians from around the world will compete to win a HKD40,000 prize and guaranteed US gigs. Get ready for a month of high pitched giggles and the occasional little bits of wee in your pants. More details.

In more comedy news, iconic Irish comedian Dylan Moran is bringing his brand-new show to Hong Kong tonight. He is described by insightful YouTube commenters as “your drunk, rambling uncle” and by pretentious reviewers as “the Oscar Wilde of comedy”. Where art thou Shakespeare’s Globe? Answer: in Hong Kong from Sept. 4-6! As part of a two-year tour visiting 205 nations, “Globe to Globe Hamlet”  will perform five shows at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. The versatile cast includes LegCo member Alan Leong’s daughter, Jennifer Leong, who plays Ophelia and two other male roles. Come out to see this UNESCO patronage awarded production. Beer bellies and bullseyes galore on Sept. 4  with a two-day darts tournament, the Hong Kong Darts Masters. It’s more about the party than the sport as this event will be the the Rugby Sevens of darts. Only one lad out of the eight will walk away with the USD100,000 (HKD775,050) prize.
